How far is H. Hofmeister from Paramus?

We're located at 115 Bergenline Ave in Westwood, about 5 to 6 miles north of most Paramus addresses. Depending on traffic, that's roughly a 10- to 15-minute drive via Route 17 or local roads. We've been serving Paramus homeowners since we opened in 1966.

My home was built in the 1950s or 1960s. Should I worry about the plumbing?

Paramus saw massive residential growth after World War II, and most of the borough's homes were built between the late 1940s and early 1970s. Homes from this era typically have galvanized steel supply lines and cast iron drain stacks. After 55 to 70 years, galvanized pipes corrode internally, reducing water pressure and eventually developing pinhole leaks. Cast iron can crack or develop heavy scale buildup. If you're noticing low water pressure, rust-colored water, or slow drains, the original piping may need replacement. We can inspect and recommend whether a full repipe or targeted replacement makes sense.

Do you work on boiler and baseboard heating systems?

Yes. Hot water boilers with baseboard radiators are the most common heating system in Paramus's postwar homes. We repair boilers of all makes, replace circulator pumps, fix zone valves, and install high-efficiency replacement boilers when repair is no longer cost-effective. We also bleed air from baseboard systems and address uneven heating between zones.

Can I add central air to my home if I only have baseboard heat?

Yes. Since boiler-heated homes have no ductwork, the most practical option is a ductless mini split system. These provide efficient zone cooling through compact wall-mounted indoor units connected to an outdoor compressor by refrigerant lines that pass through a small opening in the exterior wall. No ductwork, no major construction. For renovations where ductwork is being added, we can install a traditional central AC system as well.

Do you handle sump pump installations?

Yes. While Paramus doesn't sit directly on a river the way some Bergen County towns do, many homes in lower-lying areas or with older foundations still experience groundwater seepage during heavy rain. We install primary sump pumps, battery-backup systems, and combination units. If your existing pump isn't keeping up, we can assess whether it's undersized, has a failed check valve, or has a discharge line issue.
