Question 1

How far is H. Hofmeister from Norwood?

Accepted Answer

We're located at 115 Bergenline Ave in Westwood, about 2 miles south of Norwood. The drive takes roughly 5 minutes via Piermont Road or local streets. We've been serving Norwood homeowners since we opened in 1966.

Question 2

My Norwood home was built in the 1960s. What plumbing issues should I watch for?

Accepted Answer

Norwood homes from this era typically have galvanized steel water supply lines and cast iron drain stacks. After 55 to 65 years, galvanized pipes corrode internally, restricting water flow and reducing pressure. Cast iron drains can crack or develop heavy scale buildup. If you're noticing low water pressure, rust-colored water, or slow drains throughout the house, the original piping is likely the cause. We can inspect the system and recommend whether targeted repairs or full repiping makes sense.

Question 3

Do you work on well water systems?

Accepted Answer

Yes. While most of Norwood is on municipal water through Veolia, some properties — particularly along the western edge near the Palisades — have private wells. We service well pressure tanks, pressure switches, and the plumbing connected to well systems. If you're experiencing pressure fluctuations or air sputtering from faucets, the pressure tank or switch may need attention.

Question 4

Can I add central air to my older Norwood home?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If your home has a forced-air furnace with ductwork, adding central AC is straightforward — we connect an outdoor condenser and indoor evaporator coil to the existing ducts. If your home has boiler heat with no ductwork, ductless mini split systems are the best option — they provide efficient zone cooling through compact wall-mounted units without requiring duct installation.

Question 5

Do you handle basement waterproofing or just sump pumps?

Accepted Answer

We install and service sump pump systems — primary pumps, battery-backup units, and combination systems. Sump pumps handle groundwater that enters through the foundation. For exterior waterproofing (foundation coatings, French drains around the perimeter), you'd need a waterproofing contractor, but we can coordinate if needed. Many Norwood basements benefit from a properly sized sump pump as the first line of defense.
